KW: Like nearly all political commentary in NZ at present from right leaning television to radio and the press commentaries such as this appear to miss significant points in their praise of National Government achievements. So even if the ‘books are in good shape’ just HOW did the separation of  wealth become so extreme? Why is there a housing shortage of major proportions; actually, why is building homes so expensive c/f to other countries; why is our infratsructure (roads, rail, bridges) so lacking in vision and construction; why are so many people living in appalling conditions? Somewhere along the way under National some huge gaps have opened that are structural and will take decades to fix. Lets not take our economies strength for granted either, it is vulnerable to what happens overseas only being saved from turmoil all the while major central banks keep manipulating markets things go on in a new normal but there is huge work to do. Homelessness is a global problem as it is a NZ one, for example thousands living in squalid tent cities in Los Angeles and we must not allow this to happen here in NZ.

Pontificating about  losing Nationals tax cuts is wasteful when so much has been ignored for so long. That the Labour led coaltion will make mistakes and open themselves up for vigorous criticsm is undoubtedly going to happen. Regrettably solving poverty can’t be achieved by simply throwing money at it, it also requires an attitudinal shift, a move away from impoverished attiudes that need to be taught as well.
