It all goes back to te breakup of the Soviet Union With the Ukrainian Government demanding the return of Crimea from Russia it is hard to see this happening when the people mostly all now Russian and who voted by plebiscite to rejoin the Russian Federation by nearly 99% twice are going to allow this to happen. They never wanted to be isolated fromthe Motherland in the first place and the Maiden Revoltion (the coup orchestrated by the US in 2014} showed they did not want to join NATO one of the conditions of the coup
