What we do know is that the Japanese government can’t be trusted to tell the truth or face up to the facts. We know that becasue they have been in denial about their sagging economy now for nearly 20 years and look where that has got them. However, this disaster affects us all on planet earth so should we be taking more interest. It’s not just a Japanese problem, it’s Planet Earth’s.
The fuel rods melted through their containment vessels in the reactors, and no one knows exactly where they are now… Tepco has been developing robots, which can swim under water and negotiate obstacles in damaged tunnels and piping to search for the melted fuel rods. But as soon as they get close to the reactors, the radiation destroys their wiring and renders them useless.
